How to make Ginger Beer at home!

Looking for a fresh, healthy and homemade drink? Try ginger beer!

Warmer days are finally with us! Why not make a deliciously refreshing drink to enjoy whilst soaking up the sun!

Using only a few ingredients you’re likely to have in your kitchen, homemade ginger beer is quick, easy and perfect for welcoming summer.

Ingredients:

  • Ginger - chopped

  • Mint leaves

  • 1 Orange

  • Sweetener of your choice (like cane sugar or honey)

  • (Optional) Yeast




Steps:

  1. Take 3-4 pieces of cleaned ginger root, and do a rough chop, with pieces about 2cm in length and width.

  2. Add your ginger, along with about 500 ml of water into a blender, and blend for 30-60 seconds.

  3. Strain your blended mixture into a container of your choice; we found using a cheese cloth to be most effective for this. Strain in batches and squeeze excess liquid after each batch.

  4. Add a sweetener of your choice, like cane sugar or honey, as well as any spices or herbs you'd like.

  5. (optional) add yeast and allow your mixture to ferment for the traditional flavour and fizziness.

  6. Serve over ice and enjoy!
